Master of time
The watchmaker manages each stage in the manufacture or repair of watches. He checks the movement and the finished product from a functional and aesthetic point of view. Depending upon his specialism, the watchmaker cares for, services and repairs watches and clocks. He makes and replaces defective parts (repairing). In industry, he organises production in such a way as to optimise yield. He is meticulous, precise and often sees his job as a vocation.
Peering painstakingly over his work, magnifying glass on his forehead, the watchmaker is often to be found in companies ranging from small workshops to international manufacturers. Sometimes his work is confined to post-sales service in a watchmaking company or a large retailer.
