Welder - Metalworker

The art of metal.

The welder makes, assembles and repairs metal constructions, be they steel or wrought iron. He welds and screws doors, windows, conservatories, facades, staircases, wiring etc. He works with materials such as steel, stainless steel, corrugated iron and aluminium – even glass. He uses computer-operated machines as well as hand-operated tools. He knows how to carry out complex welding: countersinking, drilling, cutting, notching, filing and milling. The equipment (sometimes large and heavy) is manufactured to specification in the workshop and then transported and mounted on the site.

He can be found in the workshop and on construction sites. The welder is a multi-skilled team worker. Some noisy work presents risks: goggles, helmet and steel-capped boots are the order of the day. Outside, the welder is at the mercy of the weather. He works with other professionals in the construction industry.

Skills required: self-starter — team worker — knows how to read plans — driving license— imagination — manual skills
