Guaranteeing excellence

A watchmaking quality controller is responsible for monitoring the quality at a watchmaking production facility. They conduct technical surveys that cover everything from the aesthetic aspects to the technical characteristics and the dimensions of a watch. Their job is to guarantee that the watches created are of exceptional quality, whether their movements are mechanical or quartz.

Watchmaking quality controllers are able to read technical plans and are also adept at using conventional measurement tools, with sound knowledge of the permissible margins and tolerances. They know the applicable quality standards inside and out. Being a watchmaking quality controller means knowing how to verify that the manufacturing process is compliant with the requirements while observing the rules and procedures put in place by the watchmaking company. They are also responsible for creating control and conformity documents (reports, exemptions, submissions). They will then isolate and return products that are not up to standard so that they can be reworked or destroyed.

Many professions involve the use of a great many IT tools, and that of a watchmaking quality controller is no different. Depending on where they work, watchmaking quality controllers may be required to record the conclusions and data from their quality checks in a specific software application. Compliance with deadlines is an important part of their work.

Driven by a desire for constant improvement, the watchmaking quality controller is the expert eye of the watchmaking industry. They have profound knowledge of the various types of watches, decorations and finishes. Their sharp eye, analytical mind and critical faculties enable them to keep in mind the expectations of their customers at every level of sophistication.

Watchmaking quality controllers work during daytime hours in a team in the watchmaking industry, their workstations being well-lit and quiet workshops or watchmaking production stations.

Skills required: discipline – precision – concentration – dexterity – visual acuity – drive – organisational skills – meticulousness – team spirit – independence – general IT skills – analytical mind
