The driving force on site.

The machinist drives all sorts of civil engineering machines: loaders, power shovels, steamrollers and bulldozers. Using these tools, he digs holes, levels out building sites, tars roads, flattens layers of materials, transports earth, mixes cement and surfaces roads. He knows how to use wheeled and tracked excavators to dig and remove soil, stones and gravel. He loads lorries and organises transportation from one site to another.

Outside all year round, the construction equipment driver works with his colleagues driving lorries and cranes. He has to take into account other road and site users (building companies, civil engineers etc.) and adapt to what might be inclement weather conditions. His working hours may be irregular.

Skills required: good concentration — good eyesight — tolerates noise — good reflexes — flexibility — stamina — cat. M machinist license
